The assignment

Cocktail production inside a larger festival.

I worked as Tim McTee’s assistant at Made in America. Tim was my direct client and the producer I worked under. His clients included Roc Nation, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and their family.

My role was to support Tim’s production on the beverage side. You can find his work at Experiential Producers.

The archived 2022 production planner lists Tim as freelance producer and names me under Critical Mass in the mixology team. Its run-of-show connects advance batching with specific hospitality areas, show-ready product placement, and a review between service days.

The assignment connects the preparation work with the hospitality spaces it supports. That is the part another festival producer can use when building a beverage brief.

The production brief

One beverage plan. Distinct service areas.

The archived planner separates the central batching operation from the guest-facing lounges. It assigns the Critical Mass team to preparation and beverage support, with named people covering different locations rather than treating the festival as a single bar.

  • Advance preparation. The team was scheduled to prepare the batching area and begin cocktail production before the first service day.
  • Opening readiness. The plan called for final batch adjustments, additional preparation, and cocktails positioned for service before opening.
  • Area ownership. My named assignment was the ROC Compound / North Lounge. Separate teammates were assigned to the South Lounge / Live Nation Riser and the central batching area.
  • Between-day review. The run-of-show included a review after the first day, followed by adjustments and preparation for the next service day.

Each assignment has a place in the wider run-of-show. The beverage team works within that production structure rather than running a separate schedule.

The operating approach

Connect the batch room to the bar.

The plan made beverage preparation and lounge coverage separate responsibilities within the same team. Someone could stay focused on batches while the people assigned to hospitality areas stayed close to service.

For a producer planning a similar activation, that division is worth resolving early. Who prepares the drinks? Who places them for opening? Who covers each service area? Who coordinates the next round of preparation?

A cocktail recipe does not answer those questions. The beverage scope needs to answer them alongside the wider event schedule, with clear handoffs to the existing production and service teams.

What the record supports

The work behind the credit.

My role was assistant to Tim McTee, with beverage work documented in the Critical Mass team’s planned assignments. In the May 2020 interview, I described Made in America as recurring work. My public professional biography also identifies cocktail-centric event production for the festival.

The operational detail here comes from the archived 2022 planner. Planning quantities are not reported as actual consumption, and a run-of-show is not presented as a post-event results report. Private contact information, recipes, and production files remain private.

For your next festival

Start with the beverage responsibility.

If you are building a festival cocktail program, a sponsor activation, or artist and VIP hospitality, tell me which part of the beverage operation you need someone to own. We can scope creative development, batching, production oversight, and the right beverage team around what your producer, venue, and caterer already cover.

See festival cocktails and beverage production for the current offering, or experiential beverage activations for brand-led work. I am based in New York City and available for international commissions by agreement.

Before we talk

A few practical answers.

Did Jason produce the entire Made in America festival?

No. Jason worked as Tim McTee’s assistant. This case study covers his supporting beverage role, with the archived planner identifying him as part of the Critical Mass mixology team.

Can this approach work with an existing festival bar team?

Yes. We can scope beverage preparation, creative development, and production oversight around an existing venue, catering, or festival service team. Responsibilities and local requirements are agreed before the engagement.
